Tito Ortiz out of The Ultimate Fighter 11

UFC light heavyweight star Tito Ortiz has left The Ultimate Fighter 11 and will not be fighting his old nemesis Chuck Liddell. Ortiz has been replaced by another long time UFC veteran, Rich Franklin who will now face Chuck Liddell at UFC 115 in Vancouver.

Dana White and the UFC are remaining tight lipped about the reasons or manner of his sudden departure. Speculation concerning UFC stalwart Ortiz has been rife for a few weeks now with Dana White and the UFC being pretty mute on the subject of Ortiz and series 11 of The Ultimate Fighter.

Dana White was quoted as saying

“Fans and media have been asking me for weeks what is happening on The Ultimate Fighter Season 11, saying things like ‘is Tito off the show, is Chuck fighting Rich?’ Today, I’m officially announcing that Chuck Liddell will fight Rich Franklin at UFC 115.  I wish I could tell you why, but everyone’s just going to have to watch The Ultimate Fighter Season 11 on Spike TV.

What I can say is that these are two UFC legends, and they give everything they have in every second of a fight. Both of these guys are looking to get back to the top of the light heavyweight division.  Liddell and Franklin at 205 pounds is going to be a war, and I can’t wait to do our first UFC event ever in Vancouver.”

Tickets sales for the Vancouver UFC event UFC 115 sold out in just 30 mins the fastest sales for a UFC in history.

UFC 115 in Vancouver sold out in just 30 minutes in a pre-sale Tuesday, two days before tickets were scheduled to go on sale to the general public.

UFC president Dana White broke the news via Twitter.

“Vancouver sold out in 30 mins!!!! Thank you Vancouver we worked hard on getting it there. Thank you Mayor Robertson.”

The tickets all sold out via the UFC’s FightClub and didn’t even make it on sale to the general public.

Chuck The Iceman Liddell

Chuck The Iceman Liddell

The Iceman, Chuck Liddlell has announced his plans to take a year off, in order to “give his bran a rest”

Following UFC president Dana White’s announcement that “you will never see Chuck in the mat again” it appears that Liddell intends to take some time out before making any definite decision on his retirement. The Iceman is coming off a technical knockout loss to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at UFC 97 which marked the fourth loss in his last five fights.

UFC president and close friend of Liddell’s, Dana White has repeatedly and publicly appealed to The Iceman to hang up his gloves. However Liddell has been quoted regarding his retirement

“I haven’t personally made a decision one way or the other. Hopefully my brain can heal over time. The shot last fight is something that normally wouldn’t hurt me. I think I need at least some time off from getting hit. I’m going to take time off sparring then. I’ll train still. Still gonna roll. I’ll probably do a little more jiu-jitsu than normal because I like it. It’s fun.”

Liddell will be 40 yr old by the time he makes a decision to fight again and if “brain rest” is the reason to take time out that he really should be thinking about Dana’s suggestion.
