Just  over a week has gone since the Rumble at The Reebok, and the dust has settled on what was definately a step in Production for a UK Muay Thai show.  For promoter Darren Morris to pull of an event of this quality for his first show is a testament to his vision and where the sport has the potential to go.

Could this be the start to UK catching up with the likes of Holland, where Muay Thai regularly attracts thousands, international names are common place and production quality is right up there with top tier sports?

The Devere White Hotel in the Reebok Stadium was perfect setting  for the 1st Rumble at the Reebok. A premiership football stadium was an apt location for a show setting out to be a premiership muay thai showcase event.  Fans were treated to dancing girls, champagne and 3 course meals, pyrotechnics and fire jugglers, and then the fireworks really started in the form of the fights.

What was originally billed as the best of the UK best with 13 Full A Class Thai Rule bouts with all British Fighters, ended up with the Fight of the Night being England vs. Thailand with Juk vs Trainor that had everything you could want in an exciting muay thai fight. Acrobatics, Speed, Skill, awesome technique and a  big  helping of controversy with Juk initially edging the decision after 5 rounds only it to be reversed after re checking the score cards and the win going to Damien Trainor. Rematch anyone?

With Muay Thai scoring being sometimes exceedingly complex to the initiated and best left to those who understand this often misunderstood part of the sport, only one thing was certain,  the fight was very close whatever way you looked at it.

With a world title bout and two British titles also on the card, the local lads dominated. Bury resident Andy Thrasher took a short trip along the M61 to dominate and impress and took the WKA Title in style. Manchester and Salford fighters Paul Kapowicz and Daiton Jackson took their UKMF British and WKA British Titles respectively in tough exciting 5 rounder’s that had the crowd on their feet and left Master Sken fighter Paul Kapowicz with a dobber marble sized bump on his left cheek thanks to a huge elbow in the face he took on the way to victory.

Promoter Darren Morris is now looking to move onwards and upwards. The next Double Vision Promotions event is billed as “The Ultimate Lads Night Out” and if it’s half as good as the Rumble at the Reebok, it should deliver on its promise.  For more details click here

Rumble at the Reebok was sponsored by www.fightshop.com and Sandee (Thailand) equipment. Sandee (Thailand) premium muay thai and MMA gear is officially imported and distributed by www.fightshop.com for more information on stocking and distribution, click here
