UFC UK President Marshall Zelaznik

UFC UK President Marshall Zelaznik

UFC UK President Marshall Zelaznik confirmed to The Sun today that UFC 100 will be shown in the UK live and as it happens. Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Zelaznik said “I’d like to guarantee our loyal British and Irish fans that UFC 100 will be LIVE on television over here. You won’t have to wait to see the biggest event in UFC history. UFC 100 will be live in the UK.”

Although the UFC have not confirmed which broadcaster will be showing UFC 100 in the UK he did go on to say “We’ve got some very exciting options on the table and I expect to be able to make an announcement by Monday.”

The Sun has claimed that no less than SIX broadcasters are vying for the rights to air the UFC in the UK.

ESPN are said to have lodged a huge bid to become the new home of the UFC in the UK and are the frontrunners to seal a long-term contract with the promotion — probably starting with UFC 101 in August.

But they face a challenge from Five, who are keen on bringing MMA to a mainstream audience.

Although Five cannot match ESPN’s financial clout, the lure of terrestrial television may help swing them the deal in favour of their subscription-based rivals.

Sky Sports are also in the running, but their failure to fully back UFC programming with a weekly talk show saw them lose out to Setanta two years ago.

Bravo are also interested in screening live fights but it is understood the UFC would prefer to team up with Virgin 1 if an agreement with ESPN or Five cannot be reached.

Insiders at Virgin 1 were reportedly amazed at the viewing figures season nine of The Ultimate Fighter produced considering the minimal advertising spend the show received.

Over 380,000 people watched the TUF 9 finale earlier this month and the UFC are said to be delighted with its success.

UFC 100 is a milestone in the history of the UFC and the sport of Mixed Martial Arts. What was once described by presidential candidate and ex US Navy boxer, Senator John McCain, as “Human Cockfigting” the UFC has gone on to become the largest provider of pay per view content in the world.

Dan Henderson in an interview with UFC.com about his upcoming fight with Michael Bisping at UFC 100.

Dan Henderson TUF 9 Coach

Dan Henderson TUF 9 Team USA Coach

“Bisping does talk a lot,” Henderson told UFC.com. “I guess he was working to get me riled up, it’s almost impossible to get me riled up. I’m easy going and I can roll with it. If you disrespect me, I just kinda take a mental note. And ya know, that will come out his ass later.  I’ve fought plenty of guys that have the background in stand-up and I don’t have a problem striking with anybody. Obviously I don’t want to play into someones strengths and I’m usually better at being more well-rounded than my opponents. There’s something I’m always better at and that’s where I’m gonna try to force the fight to go. If I’m not out-striking him, I’m gonna take the fight somewhere else (smirks). I have a feeling he’s no better on his feet than I am. I’m sure he’s a little bit better at moving his feet and cutting some angles but he definitely doesn’t have more power than I do. I just wanna force him to fight me, cut him off, and make him stay in my face.”

“I’m expecting a tough fight as it is and I know he’s gonna be in shape and ready to go.” Henderson said. “That’s about the only thing that he has going for him is his cardio. I’m gonna focus on that and make sure it’s not a factor in this fight. I think if I don’t even step one foot into the gym and not work on technique or wrestling or anything and did just cardio, I’d still beat him up. I’m a better fighter, I’m more experienced and that’s there. I just wanna make sure my conditioning is there.”

“I don’t care what he says, it doesn’t matter, it’s not gonna change how I fight him,” said Henderson. “I’m still gonna be trying to knock him out, still trying to beat him up and make his lip so fat he can’t talk for a couple days. It’s still gonna be what I’m doing no matter what. So I don’t really care what he says, it doesn’t matter or affect anything.”

And Bisping’s response ?

The UFC has traditionally award TUF coaches a top spec vehicle at the conclusion of a TUF season. Rich Franklin got a new Hummer in season two and Matt Hughes even negotiated for a pricey John Deere tractor after season six. Well Bisping and Henderson are no exception and both have been given new cars but not just any car.

The new vehicle is a specialty Windsor Collection edition Range Rover that comes with custom STRUT body kits and full audio-video and navigation systems.

“It’s an absolutely amazing car,” Bisping said. “It’s not just a Ranger Rover. It’s like the top of the range with every extra little extra on it you can imagine. “

Range Rovers are built in Solihull, West Midlands in Bisping’s home of the United Kingdom and have been a symbol of Brutishness since their inception just after the second world war.  But  these vehicles have had the STRUT treatment.

Headquartered in Corona, California, STRUT’s stunning jewellery collection for luxury vehicles is designed for discriminating automotive enthusiasts who demand the height of sophistication and style in all of life’s passions. Handcrafted of the finest chromed 316L stainless steel, hand-polished and signed by the artisan, STRUT products are designed and manufactured to withstand any weather condition, providing ongoing lustre and a superior appearance.

Ok, who knows the most about MMA ?  My mate Dave or Dave Jackson, assistant coach on The Ultimate Fighter Season 9 for Team UK ?

My mate Dave is a massive UFC fan and a bit of a UFC statto. Dave Jackson is Muay Thai coach at the Wolfslair MMA Academy and was assistant coach for Team UK on TUF 9.

So who is best placed to make the accurate predictions, the fan or the expert ?

Sanchez v Guida
Both have crazy cardio and should be well matched on the ground. Sanchez has the edge in the striking department which should see him through to a unanimous points win. Sanchez to win. I think he will be able to nullify Guida’s wrestling but has better stand up and this will tell as the fight goes on so I am guessing he will take it via last round TKO
Sanchez – points Sanchez – last round TKO
Wiks v Johnson
Wilks impressed in his semi against, all be it an already beaten up, Frank Lester. Johnson was hurt by Nick Osipczak, he can expect more of the same from Wilks, who hits a more authority, whilst not finding it so easy to muscle him around. Well I have to say this is a hard fight to pick. If James brings his A game he can beat Demarques both on his feet and on the ground but Demarques is a very determined fighter and will be hard to beat.
Wilks – points Wilks – rd 2 submission
Lytle v Burns
Lytle has a tonne of experience, granite chin (ask Paul Taylor) and has no problem slugging it out. Burns looked good in defeat against Johnson but I see Lytle’s experience giving him the victory in the second. Lytle’s experience should give him the edge in this fight and I see a late sub for him.
Lytle – TKO rd 2 Lytle – Submission
Pearson v Winner
Should be a good one this. Ross is a non stop action type of fighter while Winner is the more technical. Coming out of Dan Hardy’s camp I see Winner as being the most improved since they left the house ten weeks or so ago. Winner’s reach will give him a decisive advantage and a close decision victory. Ross and Andre is a hard pick. Both guys can beat the other on any given day. I am gonna’ flip a coin and guess that Ross may be edges it and wins on points.
Winner – points Pearson – points (via coin toss)
Stevenson v Diaz
I don’t think Joe has been the same since his loss to BJ Penn at UFC 80. Diaz on the other hand is improving. Dangerous on the ground and unorthodox striking make him a handful for anyone. Punches in bunches from Diaz will ware Joe out and lead him to a stoppage late into the second round.
Diaz – TKO rd 2 Stevenson – rd 2 Submission

Fightnub would like to thank Dave Jackson for taking a phone call on Friday evening and bothering to do this. Cheers Dave. Dave Jackson is Muay Thai coach at the Wolfslair MMA academy home of Mike Bisping, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Paul Kelly, Ricco Rodreguez and host of other top MMA athletes.Dave also runs his own Muay Thai gym, Warrington Thai Boxing in Warrington Cheshire and is available for private lessons (when he isn’t jetting around the world training champions).

Fightnub would also like to thank Mike Bisping for taking a phone call early in the morning in Vegas (we forgot about the time difference, sorry Mike). However we decided not to go with Mike’s predictions as his name isn’t Dave and we thought the headline Dave vs Dave was catchy.
